Desktop Manager for Mac — not for Tiger!
After all the hype surrounding the release of DM for Apple users, which in and of itself was too many years in the waiting, they don’t even have the decency to include support for Tiger (OS 10.4.x) users. The newly released RIM program runs on Leopard (OS X 10.5.5+), kind of a disheartening surprise when I went to install the software. I use Tiger, because that is what my laptop came with when I purchased it two years ago. RIM has alienated a lot of people from using their software, because now for Blackberry users to use this new software which we’ve waited so long for we have to purchase Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x) which costs $169.00 from the Apple Store.
I am a student so luckily I get a little bit of a break in purchasing the new operating system, and have several Windows machines at home, but it is the principle of the matter to me. I opted not to get Leopard because I didn’t feel that I needed to upgrade. Now Apple doesn’t even sell Leopard installation discs, leaving us Tiger users to either go get Snow Leopard, continue to use Windows devices for simple DM tasks, or just be left on the side of the road with nothing like I’m sure some users still are.
Obviously, if people that still run Tiger haven’t upgraded for the awesome features that (Snow) Leopard offers, there is a reason. Perhaps it is the cost of buying the new OS. This is why people still run Windows XP, or 2000, or whatever they choose to run. DM still works for them, though. Seems kind of like a shitty deal for Apple users who are still dedicated enough to the RIM devices despite the fact that they have never had direct device support, but I guess RIM wasn’t too concerned about that.
Come on RIM, get your heads of out of your asses, you make great phones and you have a top-notch development team. Apple users that have bypassed the iPhone in favor of the incompatible Blackberry may be happy as a majority by percentage, but there is a significant percentage of us out here that you are still neglecting, however this time it was by choice.
Excellent Article.
I fully agree with each and every word in this article. It is so damn frustrating to know that simple issues are un resolved despite the hype.
Solution:-
I downloaded the
“missing sync for blackberry”
and installed it and was able to sync my contacts for some days till it asked for registration etc.
So it is not a permanent solution but a temporary one in which you can have SOME backup.
But indeed it is such a hopeless situation.
And in todays world, when technology and freeware softwares are so easy to get, it is indeed an issue which MUSt be resolved by either apple or blackberry people.

Another Solution
Get pocketmac (google it)
Get its updates
http://www.pocketmac.com/updates.php
I just use pocket mac and updates (for my flip pearl) and was able to sync perfectly
The website of pocketmac says it is for 90 days but i think i have an older version which does not tell you to register etc
so thi is how you can
synchronize your RIM blackberry contacts with os x tiger on apple mac

Yep. I used PocketMac for a little bit but then opted to just use one of my Windows machines for my updating, syncing, etc.
