Seesmic

Another new Twitter client, perhaps this one has finally added or enhanced some of the features of other applications that we’ve seen. At first glance, this application is not one that I would recommend. Upon install, the application asks you for your username/password, pretty standard stuff. However, what is not standard is that the application does not login! I tried on a whim to enable my WiFi and this enabled the application to login and get tweet updates, etc. I’ve noticed on the Crackberry forums that other people have had the same issue, but regardless, it’s almost not even worth writing a review because of this issue.

The interface is pretty clean, allowing replies using Direct Messages, regular @tweets, and seems to be very functional as well as quick and responsive. One thing that I found to be very nice about this application is that it gives you the ability to incorporate ‘short links’ into your tweets. Eg., you type in some huge forum link into your tweet, finish typing it, and then hit ‘Shorter URL’, it will be you a bit.ly link! Very cool feature!  Sure beats having to get a bit.ly on another page and then paste. The rest of the application is pretty standard and falls in line with the rest of the popular Twitter applications around.

One drawback (and I’m not sure if this is beta-related or an intentional feature) is that there is an icon that sticks on your home screen (see the image below) regardless of if you have new notifications or not. Kind of annoying to me, because I know what applications I have running and do not need a little raccoon there to tell me that I’m running Seesmic.

I do think that this software has a really good potential to be very successful, but given that it is currently in a beta phase right now it has much room to improve. Definitely worth checking out!

And the verdict is…

[ 6/10 ]
